About us
The beginning
Zio's Gelateria is family run business, and our story is inspired by Zio's Nonno, Giacomo Zeraschi. Having moved to Wales, Giacomo sold his homemade ice cream around the Welsh Valleys back in 1928. The Zeraschi family moved to Barry Island in 1958 and opened the Piccolo Bar
Family
A young Zio would work alongside his Father and Mother but just like his Nonno he dreamt of making his own Gelato. He wanted to recreate the taste of Italy and bring it to the Welsh Coast
Passion
Zio's passion for ice cream spanned over 30 years, he researched different flavours, machinery, and formulas. In 2018, the prefect location for Zio's was found and the dream became a reality. Located on the sea front of Barry Island, boasting a spectacular view of Whitmore Bay.
Our Flavours
We at Zio's enjoy creating new and exciting flavours but also perfecting the traditional classics. All of our ice cream and sorbets are made on the premises. The beauty of being a local family run business is that we can tailor the flavours to suit the season or the feedback from our wonderful customers. We are passionate about our ice cream and his is reflected within the product.
Our Creations
Waffles, crepes, sundaes, milkshakes, and hot and cold beverages are all on offer at Zio's Gelateria, alongside our vast array of Gelato and sorbets. All our sorbets are both dairy and vegan friendly. These can be enjoyed in store or for take away, with our handy takeaway containers (available in 2 sizes). Also, for the perfect gift for any ice cream lover, a Zio's Gift certificates, because every day is an ice cream day.
Location
Barry Island is the home Gavin and Stacey and in 2019 when they filmed the Christmas Special Zios Gelateria proved a hit with the cast and crew.
Our Ethos
Family is everything to Zio's, his ethos is all about memories made over a sweet treat. Family, fun and great ice cream is what Zio's is all about.
